In light of the nightmarish events that transpired yesterday, I wear this shirt. For those who don’t know, a horrible injustice occurred yesterday at the Chicago O’Hare International Airport. My girlfriend ( @felitomkinson ) flew from Argentina, to Mexico, and finally into Chicago in order to spend the following two weeks with me. We have been planning this trip for almost 2 months.
The plane ticket was purchased with our own money, which we had saved tirelessly over the past few months. Upon arrival in Chicago, she was directed towards Customs, where she was then taken into a separate room and subjected to hours of interrogation. They had decided to not allow her access into the country, claiming they “didn’t believe” that she was only staying for two weeks, and accused her of attempting to stay permanently. They “didn’t feel comfortable” with her in the country. Didn’t trust her. They treated her like a criminal, despite having all the proper paperwork, having no criminal record, and having visited the US several times prior. They confiscated her phone, and put her in a holding cell until midnight, when they put her on a plane back to Argentina. They refused to let her call her parents. She sobbed and begged for them to let them see me for 3 hours, and refused that as well.
We weren’t allowed to look at each other, weren’t allowed to exchange the gifts we brought one another, and I wasn’t even allowed to know where she was or why she was being sent back. Worst of all, they revoked her perfectly valid visa, and she will now be forced to re-apply for one at the Argentinian Embassy, by fighting for her case and proving the injustice and mistreatment she faced in America. It is already SO DIFFICULT to obtain a visa to visit America in the first place, and now it will be nearly impossible for her. She might never be allowed back in the United States, and if she is, it will be a long and exhausting process. My heart aches for her and I am furious and confused. The girl I love cannot even come see me, or my family and friends. Which is all we wanted. I love you Felicitas, and I am so SO sorry for how my country treated you. I will see you soon, babe 💔 I promise.
i haven’t seen anyone talking about this on tumblr so I’m making a post about it.
a few days ago this 18 year old guy named julien clement wore a shirt that says “IF YOU ARE GAY DON’T APPROACH ME I’LL KILL YOU” in ottawa, the capital of canada, my hometown. he literally wants to murder gay people in cold blood.
julien clement and yan miller have openly stated they feel no remorse for wearing these shirts and have a homophobic gang called ATG which has around 20 members.
as someone who’s been struggling really hard to live openly as queer/bisexual, this terrifies me to my core. i don’t want to be scared for my life when i go to visit my friends and family.
i’m not saying dox them but please spread this around because canadian stuff really never gets much attention on tumblr, and these guys are potentially dangerous!!
