Since we’re not seeing trailers left and right, let this be our warning.

Please please PLEASE do not sleep on this. They only made this series because it kicked major booty in the box office, but they aren’t promoting it so it will fail and they can go back to their normal paint palettes.

Do. Not. Let. Them! Please do not let them shrug off a group who is called a minority but really isn’t minor in representation!

Let them see that there are just as many people who love T’challa and Zuri as there are fans of SpiderMan and the Hulk watching!

Here is the trailer! It looks awesome btw. It Premieres TONIGHT PLEASE WATCH IT LIVE, or STREAM IT ON THE DISNEY NOW APP. Don’t forget to tweet about it, and have it trending. Disney XD tonight September 23 @ 8c/9p

I love this. There’s another one where they go to a wine tasting and give people a glass from a $20 bottle and they hate it, then a glass from a $200 bottle and they love it. But then they reveal that both glasses are actually from the same $20 bottle.

Wealth and it’s trappings is a false construct meant to elevate those that

Have.

This is just like that Penn and Teller “Bullshit” thing where they went to a high-class restaurant and had a “water steward” present different brands of bottled water to people, claiming this water was from a mountain somewhere or that water was from a glacier, and then the people would talk about how different they all tasted. Except all the water came from the same source: The garden hose outside the restaurant.

Never underestimate the power of marketing wank or the gullibility of rich people.

my favorite Millennial Thing™ is when a group of us are standing around and talking and someone asks a question that no one knows the answer to and suddenly it’s a race to get out your phone and google it and be the first to know, and then someone starts reading the Wikipedia article about the thing aloud to everyone else, and what started as a casual conversation is now A Learning Opportunity and we all walk away a little more knowledgeable about a random topic

Like, Boomers hate when we do that, but I think it’s one of the best things about us.

So long as we have internet or a cell signal, all of the world’s collective knowledge is at our fingertips, and damned if we aren’t going to use it.

My dad always get mad when I do this. He’s always like “We didn’t need to know.” That makes no sense to me. Why would that make me ignore my ability to learn something? I don’t always *need* to know but that doesn’t mean I’m going to pass up an opportunity to learn something new.

Why carry a supercomputer around in your pocket if you’re not gonna use it?

We…didn’t…need…to know?

Whut?

That…that makes my head hurt.

I need to know everything.

Article 13 has been approved by EU. It’s worse than Net Neutrality has ever been. I don’t even know if we will have any access to Tumblr, Pinterest, Ao3 or even Instagram. Memes are probably dead, just like reactions, fanfictions and gifsets. Everyone in EU is in danger that they will not have access to their favorite sites. But I haven’t seen a SINGLE post about it on my dash because Americans doesn’t give a damn.

Also, I’m in Europe and ngl, had no idea this was even an article up for debate let alone it being fucking passed.

Don’t panic! This was expected at this stage and it is only the beginning. If you are a European and feel passionate about this, please keep on reading and help!

So what has happened so far … the Commission has drafted up a long overdue copyright reform. https://eur-lex.europa.eu/procedure/EN/2016_280 It contains a lot of good, and some bad: mainly Article 11 and 13.

This was put forward as a whole to the European Parlament, where it was voted down on the 5th of July 2018

image

This meant, this will not go through the fast way, and will be subject to scrutiny and change.

The Commission made some alterations https://eur-lex.europa.eu/procedure/EN/2016_280 and put it forward again. If Parlament would have voted it down again, it probably would have meant back to the drawing board, but most people (including me) agree that Europe does need copyright reform, so on the second vote it passed the first step:

image

So what happens now?

This will now go into what is called the Trilogue, where Commission, Parlament and representatives of all national governments will sit together to make alterations until everybody is happy implementing the regulation.

This means we can now influence this via our MEPs and our National Government!

image

If countries that are red your government is likely to support Article 13.

What to do now?

There are a lot of organisations that organise actions against article 13. Check out their websites and get in touch with your MEP or local government and let them know you are unhappy about this.

… and many many more, just google to find one in your country.

Also, as @asthesea-breezehitsmylungs pointed out, a lot of people are not aware of this going on. So make them aware! Share the memes and point them to the petitions. And don’t just complain how shit this is, get in touch with your politicians!

image

Reblogging for the more positive stance and call to action. This is not the moment to panic, although article 13 and 11 are scary. But the final law is not approved yet, and so far MPE’s have shown to be influenced by the amount of messages. I received several responses from MPE’s who voted for the law but are pushing for strong limits to these laws to make sure that while it protects copyrights, it will also allow fan creation, memes and parody. So let’s make sure the word spread, and that the version of the law that get accepted in several months is one that WON’T destroy the internet as we know it.

Kenyan ban on lesbian love story Rafiki is lifted

Shortly after the news that the film would premiere at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival the film was banned by the Kenya Film Classification Board “due to its homosexual theme and clear intent to promote lesbianism in Kenya contrary to the law”.

Producer, writer and director Wanuri Kahiu successfully sued to have the ban lifted so that the film could be screened in Kenya and she would be eligible to submit her film for a Foreign Language Film Oscar.  On September 21, 2018 judge Wilfrida Okwany ruled in Kahiu’s favour writing, “I am not convinced that Kenya is such a weak society that its moral foundation will be shaken by seeing such a film.”

The film will now be screened at some point in Kenya before the October 30th deadline for a minimum of 1 week to ensure Oscar eligibility.

Rafiki is the story of the teenage daughters of two warring politicians who fall in love with each other despite prejudice from their friends, family, and society at large. The film has U.S. distribution, but no official theatrical release date as of yet. It will be released in France on September 26, 2018 and in Norway on November 16, 2018
