attack on titan is not worth caring about and i am deeply disturbed by its existence. not because of the vore. not because of the gore. but because i am caught up with the manga and know where it goes.
and here is my personal advice: if attack on titan is your big thing and you are not caught up on the manga, just…start looking at other series. try. you might not be completely crushed by the things that end up happening but
not worth it. it is not worth it to care deeply about or defend, there is not really any defending the horrible things it does…do not feel the need to defend it because you love it. please examine it critically if you are caught up and just accept that horrible awful terrible fucking decisions were made. i will not be a ball of anger at anyone who still is entertained but
do not defend it. there is no way to defend writing a story about shocking horrible violent vore for the sake of shock and horror and having it be about what it is
season 2 is coming out and if you watch it please…do not keep your hopes up for the rest of the series even if the season is well-made. i have no idea how far it will animate this time but i have reason to doubt that the entire manga will be animated or that it will be animated faithfully.
and i sure fucking hope it does not, or that at least it does and it gets enough backlash to open up conversation…
anyway below the cut is spoilers for the ENTIRE SERIES
so when a Black kid gets kidnapped and gets tortured by a group of White people it doesn’t make the news but if a White kid were to get kidnapped…it would make the national news.
adults, while forcing all children above the age of 5 to sit still, be silent, and obey orders for 7-8 hours a day with minimal breaks, reducing their exposure to fresh air and sunlight to almost nothing, forcing them to alter their natural sleeping patterns to increase productivity, and repeatedly telling them their self worth depends on their being able to follow these instructions perfectly for 13 or more years: kids these days are so lazy! they never go outside! they never want to do anything! clearly it’s not because of us!
Rose talked about how when gems are made they burst out the ground already knowing what they’re supposed to do and they’re meant to stay that way forever. She goes further to say humans are supposed to change and grow up and that’s one thing she admires about humans
Now that we know Rose is pink diamond, how does that change the whole “invent yourself” philosophy that Rose has? Because Rose choosing to reinvent her identity has numerous consequences for everyone around her and got the majority of her army killed and opposing gems as well. So I’m asking if that philosophy that young kids are gonna see when they watch SU actually portrayed in a positive light?
Because look, kids are growing up and others are changing constantly, so if it’s shown that choosing to recreate your entire identity causes a lot of strife and horrible things to follow like what happened with pink diamond then what message is the crewniverse actually sending? That is not good, at all. People are supposed to find out who they are or create who they are, but in the show it’s depicted as something that causes bad things to happen (the war) and makes a lot of people angry and upset (sapphire).
As opposed to concepts like fusion, gems come together to create something new. The fusion doesn’t always know what gem they are immediately but once they do it’s set in stone. And this realization that you’re an opal or a Smokey quartz comes very quickly and with no real consequences
Pink diamond becoming Rose Quartz on her own without fusing and without prompting, simple because she wanted to and she wanted to leave her old life behind is portrayed very negatively. The message I’m getting that I don’t agree with is that you can create something new with someone else but you can’t change on your own and make your own decisions about it. It even asks if changing yourself authentically like that is even possible; it’s suggested that Rose is basically wearing a disguise the whole time, lied to all the crystal gems during the course of her life and is constantly haunted by her previous life as a diamond. If you’re going to sell the “reinvent yourself” philosophy this is a terrible and detrimental way to do it and it’s my main problem with this story arc
